Guarding the Ark for 20 Years
After the Philistines returned the Ark of the Covenant to the Israelites, Elezear, the son of Abinadab, was consecrated to guard it, a job which he did for 20 years. Sometimes the Lord calls us into a ministry that will last for years. Other times the Lord calls us into a ministry for a short period of time. Imagine guarding the Ark of the Covenant for 20 years, stopping curious but disobedient people from looking into the Ark and getting zapped to their deaths and stopping armed enemies from stealing it. We may never be called into a ministry that is dangerous or lasts as long as twenty years, but no matter what the Lord calls us to do, we need to be as obedient as Elezear. (see 1 Samuel 7:1-2) “Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifces as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.” (1 Samuel 15:22 NIV)
