I Come Before the Cross
“I Come Before the Cross”
I stumble through the wreckage
Of a life lived selfishly;
The trash beneath my soiled feet
Demands I pay a fee.
What is this fee demanded?
I don’t know what to do;
I find myself in sacred place
With One I never knew.
I find that He has paid the fee,
I wonder, “What’s the catch?”
I find that love awaits me there
Where heart and Spirit match.
I give to Him my wretched life,
That’s good enough for Him;
No matter that this filthy life
Is seen in light grown dim.
He gives to me a fresh, new life
And takes the trash away;
Sweet Jesus saves me from myself
And starts another day.
I come before the cross,
My spirit tossed and torn;
I come before the cross
And leave the pain I’ve worn.
No other place has touched me,
No other love I’ve known;
I come before the cross
And find I’m not alone.
-for my precious Jesus-
